Young Rest Home, Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, Information from death certificate: William Henry wade was born on 10 January 1869, in Illinois, and died on 27 April 1956 at the Young Rest Home in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie Co., Iowa - where he had resided for 7 months. His usual residence was on 3rd Street in Moorhead, Monona Co., Iowa. He was a widower and was 87 years at the time of his death. His occupation was Barber.

William's parents were John Wade and Margaret McBride [an error, should have been McNeal].

Cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage. He was attened by J.G. Kruml. Burial was on April 30, 1956 at the Villisca Cemetery in Villisca, Iowa. The Funeral Director was Ralph Oldham. William's sister Daisy was the informant for the death certificate.^1,3

J.L. Smith, undertaker testifies: I met the body of John Wade at the tain on May 25, 1908 and I buried him in the Villisca cemeteray on May 27, 1908. I made no report to the State Board of Health as he died at Concorida, Kansas and we do not make any report where they die outside of the state.²

I, Thomas Wade of Warrensville, Cuyahoga Co. Ohio, do make and publish this my last will and testament.

Item: I devise and bequeath to my son David Wade the farm on which I now reside in Warrensville Twp., Cuyahoga Co., Ohio. The same being the north part of mile 36 in said township containing eighty acres of land more or less, and all the stock and other goods and chattles which may be theron at the time of my decease on condition that he, the said David Wade, shall pay; the following bequests named herein:

Item: To my oldest daughter, Catherine Harrison, five hundred dollars. To my second daughter, Ann Nelson, five hundred dollars.

I desire that no appraisement and no sale of my aforesaid property be made, and that the court of .... direct the omission of the same in pursuance of the statute.

In testimony hereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this 24th day of August in the year 1867.

Biography*

Alexander Montgomery was born in Washington County, Kentucky, pursed his education in the school there and after arriving at years of maturity was married in that county to Ona Pierce who was also born in Kentucky. They began their domestic life there but several years laer removed to buchanan county, Missouri where they made their home for about 18 months. The year 1851 witnessed their arrival in Page county, at which time they settled in Colfax Township. There were no neighbors for miles around and deer were frequently seen, while wild game was to be had in great quantities. They traveled by wagon bringing their household goods with them and lived in a wagon until they could build a log house. This pioneer dwelling was still standing when my father, Ray Stambaugh, was a boy being used as a cattle shelter. The farm was all raw land when it came to their possession, but Mr. Montgomery at once began to clear and cultivate it, and broke the prairie and soon developed productive fields. For a long time they lived in the log cabin, but eventually a frame dwelling was erected which the family occupied until their removal to Clarinda where Alexander died at the age of 62 years. In the meantime he had prospered in his undertakings and had become the owner of 600 acres of valuable land. His widow Ona, survived him for 15 years and passed away at St. Joseph, Missouri. The were the parents of the following children: Zachary who resided in Indiana; Eliabeth, the wife of E.E. Cook residents of Shenandoha, Iowa; James, who was the first white male....[section missing due to chopped off photo copy]
Alexander and Ona Montgomery were Charter members of the Coin Methodist Church of Coin, the first meeting of the congregation was held in the schoolhouse on their farm.

Family antiques include a cowbell and toothpick holder brought to the prairie from Washington County, Kentucky in 1850 and are now in the hands of Mrs. John S. Webster, a great granddaughter of Alexander and Ona Montgomery.

Mrs. Anna Winkler

Mrs. Anna Winkler, 78, died late Thursday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy Cockran (sic), 187 Fourteenth avenue, of a serebral (sic) hemorrhage. She had been ill for a period of six months.

Mrs. Winkler had been a resident of this city since 1963 and made her home with her daughter. She was born in St. Louis on Dec. 14, 1864. She was a member of St. Ann's Altar society.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Roy Cockren (sic) and Veronica Kinkler (sic), both of Council Bluffs, and Mrs. H.B. Carlyle, Denison, Ia.; two sons, Carl of Council Bluffs and H.W. Winkler, Jersey City, N.J.; one brother, Peter Pfeff (sic), Rock Island, Ill., also seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The body was taken to the Beem-Belford funeral home, where it will lie in state until the hour of the funeral. Services will be held at St. Peter's church at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery. Requiem mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Ignatius tSein (sic), O.S.B.
