A member and former vestryman of the Christ Episcopal Church, Mr Smith was a prominent businessman, civic leader and farmer. He was vice president and director of Citizen's National Bank and was owner of the Kirkland Memorial Gardens and the State Amusement Company. He was also former chairman of the Democrat Executive Committee. He was a graduate of Parkersburg Business College and Point Pleasant High School. Born Oct 18, 1911 in Point Pleasant, he was the son of the late Homer and Vause Beale Smith.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia K Smith; two daughters, Mrs Nancy S Jewell, Charleston and Mrs Lynn S Barr, Point Pleasant; one sister, Juliet L Smith, Point Pleasant; two granddaughters, Susan L Durst, Gallipolis, Ohio and Heather N Jewell, Charleston; and three grandsons, Kevin L Durst, Pont Pleasant, Eric S Jewell and Gregory A Jewell, Charleston.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Monday at the Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev Paul Daggett and the Rev Tally Hanna officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home after 2 pm Sunday. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Those who so desire may contribute to the memorial fund of the Christ Episcopal Church in Mr Smith's memory1
