CARSDALE—
George H. Rutherford, mayor of Scarsdale, died this morning after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home, 14 Oak Way.

Mr. Rutherford, 66, who had suffered an earlier heart atttack in February, while vacationing in Florida, had returned to his duties as Scarsdale mayor in
May after several months recuperation.

Elected mayor in 1965, Mr. Rutherfoid had served on the Scarsdale Village Board of Trustees from 1963 to 1965, and was chairman of the Finance Committtee.

Mr. Rutherford was vice president of National Dairy Products Corp. of New York City until his retirement In 1964. He continued to serve the corporation as a director and chairman of its finance committee. He was a director of the Grace National Bank, Transatlantic Fund, Inc., and American Union Insurance Co. as well as a member of the advisory committee of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co.

A resident of Scarsdale since 1930, Mayor Rutherford had served as the president of the Town Club, and in 1963 was awarded the Scarsdale Bowl.

He was a former chairman of the budget committee for the Scarsdale Community Fund, former trustee and president of Hitchcock Presbyterian Church
and former member and president of the District 1 Board of Education. In January of 1965 he was elected first vice president of the White Plains Hospital board of governors on which he had served since 1961.

Mayor Rutherford was graduated from the College of Wooster in Ohio and the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.

He was born in Rutherford, W. Va. Immediate survivors are the mayor's wife, the former Isabel Fuller, and three children, Mrs. Anne Rutherford Lower, Mrs. Judith Rutherford Sewell and James Rutherford.6

Biography* Poffenbarger Papers: Benjamin born in Parkersburg, November 24, 1837, in early manhood formed a partnership with his father, but in 1856 launched into business for himself, which he has continued until the present day, making him the oldest merchant in the town. Mr. Franklin has not only been one of the most active members of the M.E. Church, South, together with him family, but he is one of the oldest members of Minturn Lodge, A.F. & A.M. and for twenty-five years Secretary of the Blue Lodge. He is a Royal Arch Mason and Knight Templar and Franklin Commandry is named in his honor.1
