Daughter of the late George S. and May Carter Harris, she was born June 19, 1914 in Greenbrier, TN, and had lived many years in Manchester before moving to Bolton in 1950. Rebecca was a graduate of Manchester High School and the Connecticut College for Women and worked as a social worker and school teacher before founding The Bolton Evergreen Nurseries "Treat's Trees" which she co-owned and managed successfully for many decades. She was one of the first women to join and actively participate in the ranks of the Connecticut Nurseryman's Association. Rebecca also belonged to the New England Nurseryman's Association, the American Association of Nurseryman, Connecticut Farm Bureau and the Bolton Congregational Church. She is survived by two sons, Richard H. and Jonathan M. Treat; daughter-in-law, Ruth M. Treat; and three grandsons, Thomas M., Charles R. and Jonathan R. Treat all of Bolton. Her brother, Sam Harris and his wife, Diana survive her in Englewood, FL. Beloved friends, nieces, nephews and numerous employees held a most special place in Rebecca's heart as did her loving caregiver, Janet K. Tunyina of Manchester. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Treat was predeceased by her stepmother, Julia Alice Harris. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 4, 11 a.m. in the Harrison Street Section of East Cemetery, Manchester, followed by a memorial service, 12 Noon at Bolton Congregational Church, 228 Bolton Center Road, Bolton. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Sept. 3, 5-8 p.m. at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center St., Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse and Health Services Inc., North Central Hospice, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066, or to a charity of the donor's choice.2,3 |

Mr. Treat was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was formerly employed as a Mechanical Engineer for Pratt & Whitney for over 20 years until his retirement in 1964 and later was co-owner/operator of the Bolton Evergreen Nursery, with his wife. He was a member of the Connecticut Nurserymen's Association, the Connecticut Farm Bureau and a member of Bolton Congregational Church. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons and a daughter- in-law, Richard H. and Ruth Treat of Bolton, Jonathan M. Treat of Bolton, three grandchildren; Thomas M. Treat, Charles R. Treat and Jonathan R. Treat all of Bolton and many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by a sister, Muriel Robb and two brothers, Clifford and Charles Treat. A graveside service will Sat.
