| Biography* | Bygdebok For Folldal: Farm No. 228, Subdivision No. 2 Borsungseter Midti The border between Folldal and Dovre previously went between Sore Borsungseter (150-1) and Midti Borsungseter. For that reason, all the three farms, Midti, Nortdre Borsungseter, and Heimtun, were located in Dovre municipality. After 1 January, 1970 they were transferred to Folldal. The farms are located about 900 meters above sea level, above the birch trees, have good but rock tillable soil with a good location in the steep slopes facing the sun. The first man to clear the land was Johannes (Jehans) Guttormson Hjerkinn, born about 1695. He and his wife, Anne, started to build during the spring of 1723. They were second cousins and got royal license to get married. Anne had a sister, also called Anne, and she was then a widow at Hjerkinn sondre. the newly married couple got permission from her to build themselves a home at Borsungholen. Jehans' brother, Lars Guttormson Hjerkinn, who was then the owner of Hjerkinn nordre, also had nothing against letting his brother clear land for a farm, which became a cotter's farm under Nordistugu Hjerkinn. The sons of Johannes, Guttorm and Peder, both lived at Borsungseter, and it is probable that they divided the farm between them. In 1801, in any case, there are two cotter's farms, Midti Borsungseter, that belonged to Hjerkinn nordre, and Nordre Borsungseter, that belonged to Hjerkinn sondre. The operators in 1801 were the sons of Guttorm and Peder at Midti, Johannes Pederson, and at Nordre, Hans Guttormson. On the family tree on therefore shows Peder under Midti and Guttorm under Nordre. | |

| Biography* | Sevilhaug says that it is not clear where Ragnhild Eriksdatter came from. His text appears to me to have contradictory information on the relationships in this family. At one point Sevilhaug refers to Ragnhild as the mother of Marit when in fact I believe he means that she is the mother of Anne and the grandmother of Marit. I have relied on his accompanying (tree form) chart (and the logic of dates and the naming patterns) in deciding how to list the family. | |

| Note* | Torstein Jørgensen: The more I look into this record, the more facinated I become of this "ironlady", bu hgh love-and softharted Elen Christine Rasmissen. From 1837 to 1865 she lost 2 husbands, 4 children, her parents, 2 fathers- and 2 mothers in-law, and some of her sisters/brothers and for sure some of her friends. Still she adopted her grandson Anton Nielsen, son of her son, Nils Eidas Rasmussen, and Marie Margarethe Johansdtr. And upon all this, she alone kept the farm going, so [Rasmus Peder] was able to buy the farm later on. I think i also touched [Rasmus Peder], because somebody told me that he had a warm, harmless, and cosy personality. These qualities was also a lable for Maren Katrine, so they fit like the hands in the gloves. If anybody told me this story, and I didn't know it was true, I would applaud it with; what a tragical but beautiful fair-tale!2 | |

| Biography* | Pope's "Pioneers of Massachusetts" states that Joanna was received from Salem Church to that of Topsfield on 19 April 1664. In 1670 she deposed that she was about 70 years old. The year of birth shown above is based on that information. Davis (Wildes) says that she died about 1682. See Davis for an account of her testimony against Mr. Gilbert's drinking. In 1692 at the trial of Joanna Towne's daughter for witchcraft, Ann Putnam testified that young John Putnam had said (referring to Rebecca Towne Nurse and her sister Sarah Towne Cloyes) that it "was no wonder they were witches for their mother was so before them." Although I cannot name her parents, it appears that Joanna's Grandparents were John and Joan Blyssynge of Somerleyton (?) England. They had two sons, Julian (born 1571) and William (born 1575)... one of which was presumably the father of Joanna. | |

| Biography* | From "The Ancestry of Dudley Wildes" by Walter Goodwin Davis: Jacob Towne was baptized at Great Yarmouth on March 11, 1632, and was a boy of three or four when he came to New England with his parents. He married Catherine Symonds in Salem on June 26, 1657. He died in Topsfield on November 27, 1704. Jacob was seldom in the courts. Mr. William Perkins sued him in 1657, but the case was withdrawn, but in 1660, when Mr. Henry Bartholomew sued him for withholding a mare and a foal, the verdict was for Bartholomew. In 1682 he acted as agent for his town in the bitter dispute between Salem and Topsfield over the boundary line, which is considered to have had vengeful repercussions in the witchcraft accusations of 1692. The will of Jacob Towne, husbandman, was made November 24, 1704, and proved January 5, 1705. He left to his son, Jacob, the land upon which he was already settled consisting of about 49 acres on the south side of Ipswich river and an acre and 60 poles on the North side. | |

| Biography* | Sevilhaug: Torber Arneson came from Sunndal. He was a schoolteacher... and came to be known as "Torber schoolmaster". Sevilhaug attributes the following to him: when he was angry at the schoolgirls because they did not know their lessons he would blurt out - "it is too bad, big girls - soon ready to be married, do not know a single word of God." Sevilhaug, in one paragraph, variously spelled the last name Arnesson, Arnesen, and Arneson. In 1751 (the same year as the Stromstad Agreement) Torber got the deed to West Sorken. Sondre Sorken (Farm 43/1) is the oldest one of the Sorken Farms. It was built in 1751 by Torber Arnesen, two years before Jon Jonsen built V. Sorken (Western Sorken). When the holdings were assessed a while later they got (combined) 3 calf skins in tax and the name of Sorkmoen, which then later got abbreviated to Sorken. He and his wife were both dead by 1775... when probate was held at West Sorken. The estate was valued at 143 daler in assets, 73 daler, 30 ort and 18 sk. in net assets. The oldest son (Torber Torbersen) who was 22 years old, took over the farm. | |

He arrived with his family at the harbor of Boston in 1638 and was one of the first settlers at Andover, Massachusetts. John Frye was one of the original purchasers of the Cochichewick tract. He moved from Newbury to Andover sometime before 1641. Frye became a Freeman in 1669. Gen. Reg of Fist Settlers of N.E. indicates that he died in 1698 at 92 years and 7 months of age. Dates above are calculated from that. References to check: Torrey, Savage Information on this family provided in Guild's "The Stiles Family in America" states that the account comes from a letter of Theophilus D. Frye of Montclair, NJ., Genealogist of the Frye Family. | |
