Mary M. Smith Answers Call

Highly Respected Lady Died At Her Home On Main Street Tuesday

Miss Mary Margaret Smith, a highly respected christian lady, of this city, died suddently at her home on Main Street, Tuesday evening at 7:25 o'clock.

Miss Smith was a daughter of Nathan and Ann (Roseberry) Smith, who settled in ths county in 1816. She was born in Point Pleasant, Apr. 23, 1844, and at the time of her death was seventy-one years, five months and two days old.

The Smith family, of which Miss Mary was a member, has played a very important part in the history of West Virginia, and most especially in the history of Mason county. Her brother, the late Col. J.P.R. B. Smith was one of the best known men in this section of the state, having served the people in the most important offices of the county for the greater portion of his life.

Miss Smith is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Guthrie, of Fayetteville, and Miss Cornelia Smith, of this city. Postmaster Griffith T. Smith and Capt. Homer Smith, both well known to our readers, are her nephews.

Miss Smith was a member of the Trinity M.E. Church, and was a noble christian woman. her many charitable acts as well as words of encouragement have endeared her to hundreds who will bow their heads in sorrow when they learn of her death.

The funeral service will be conducted from the home tomorrow, Thursday, at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. Wm. An... (rest of clipping was cut off when it was copied).4
