Leren, Martin W. age 61, of Loudonville, NY, died suddenly February 20, 2012. Born in Minneapolis, MN, on June 5, 1950, he was the son of the late Robert F. NOW SILENTLY SLEEPING
Frank E. Loomis, of Troy, Passes Away at His Home

Frank E. loomis was born in Saratoga, N.Y., on May 17, 1841. At the age of fourteen he with his father, mother and one brother moved to Wisconsin and purchased that farm on which he spent the remainder of his life with the exception of the last two year. He sold his half interest in said farm to his nephew, G.F. Loomis, and he and his better half retired from farming and the labors of this world and lived a retired life, which they both have well earned.

Mr. Loomis' record of 52 years of life in this community is an open book and no eulogy is necessary at this time. The funeral was held on Sunday, April 28th, Rev. W.C. Graff officiating and interment was in the Quarterline cemetery. A large cortage followed his remains to their last resting place.4,1

FatherJohn O. Lysen b. 8 Sep 1854, d. 17 Jun 1904
Birth*30 Mar 1901 Langhei Township, Minnesota1,2
Biography* According to a handwritten note by O.G. Malmin (attached to a pamphlet by JAO Stub (called Vestments and Liturgies) which included an unidentified photo of of a young man in Lutheran vestments on page 40:

My guess is that this was written about 1929, a year or so after Central Lutheran was built. The photo on page 40 is of John Clifford Lysen, Stub's son-in-law, who was ordained in 1926, but who left the ministry after only a few years.

Note*bt 1935 - 1969 John C. Lysen who was Superintendent of the Minnesota School of Braille and Sight Saving in Faribault (as mentioned, though not identified as an Uncle) in Karsten Ohnstad's acknowledgments in book titled "The World at My Fingertips" and as identifed in this history of the National Federation of the Blind of Minnesota:

One reason for the good working relationship between the organized blind and the Braille and Sight Saving School in Faribault during the 1930's, 1940's, and 1950's, was the treatment of the blind staff persons. John C. Lysen, superintendent of the school, hired competent blind teachers and paid them the same salary as the sighted staff members. In the thirties, this was unheard of. The school attracted blind educators that were active in the blind community. Many instructors at the school were active members of the organization and some were elected to the Board of Directors.

John C. Lysen
John was the superintendent of the Braille and Sight Saving School in Faribault (now called the State Academy for the Blind) from 1934 until 1965. He was well respected by all who knew him. He strived for excellence in the school's staff and students, both scholastically and athletically. Contrary to the practice of the day, he hired many competent blind adults as teachers at the school and paid them the same as the sighted staff members. He regularly attended the conventions, and he and his wife were members from time to time. His staff members were active leaders in the organization and he made every effort as an employer to allow them to do so. He greatly improved the grounds and buildings and promoted the idea that blind people deserved dignified treatment and a pleasant environment as much as sighted people. He is credited with bringing order and quality education to the school. John was a sighted man who held much respect for the organized blind.

Obituary published online in "The Maneater" (www.themaneater.com) on 19 Nov 1996:

Former dean dies

John Clifford Lysen III, former associate dean and chief fiscal officer of MU's College of Engineering, died in his Columbia home Monday, Nov. 11, 1996. He was 65.

Lysen was an avid Tigers fan, win or lose.

"Two days before he died, he woke up and asked, how much did Mizzou get creamed by," said Nancy Lysen, his wife of 39 years.

John Lysen was born Sept. 2, 1931, and raised in Minnesota, and he earned his bachelor's degree in English from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. After spending two years in the Army during the Korean war, he married Nancy M. Merchant. He then headed for Iowa State University at Ames to pursue his doctorate in mechanical and aerospace engineering.

In 1963, John Lysen was hired as an associate professor in mechanical engineering at MU as he began 29 years of service at the university. Five years later he became a tenured professor. Lysen taught a total of 13 courses at MU — nine undergraduate and four graduate courses. He enjoyed interacting with his students, Nancy Lysen said.

In 1987, he became the associate dean of engineering, a title he held until his retirement in 1992. Terry Jordan, Communications Coordinator for the College of Engineering and former editor of Mizzou Weekly, said he had the opportunity to interview John Lysen on a couple of occasions.

"He was a well of information and if there was something going on in the College of Engineering, he knew about it," Jordan said. "When it came to administrative matters, he was always the source."

Barb Breen, manager of business and fiscal operations for the College of Engineering, remembers John Lysen vividly.

"He always looked out for and respected us as workers and people," Breen said. "He understood that we had lives outside of the College of Engineering."

John Lysen is survived by his wife Nancy Lysen" daughter Anne Jackson of Columbia" son John Lysen of Fairbanks, Alaska and one grandson.
