Biography* George removed from Upper Middletown to East Middletown (later Chatham, now Portland) before 1710. He died February 17, 1714, and is buried in the old Cemetery in Portland. He left to his six children, all then living, an estate valued at £359-09-01.

His widow married 2nd Deacon Samuel Hall, of East Middletown, and d. there November 16, 1787 (1737).

George was one of a committee to build a church, and was put under bonds, March 17, 1710, to see that the work was well done.2

Death of Mrs. Charles Hubbard

Mrs. L.G. Marck received a message from Cheney, Wash., telling her of the death of her old friend, Mrs. Charles Hubbard, which occurred Friday morning. Mrs. Hubbard had many friends here who will sympathize with the husband and son and daughter in the loss of that noble life. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard at one time lived on the farm now owned by Mrs. Mary Kearney, but went west about twenty-five years ago and since have made frequent visits here.

Mrs. C.H. Stubbs received the sad news of the death of her cousin. Mrs. Charles Hubbard of Cheney, Wash. Mrs. Hubbard was well known in Walworth county. Before her marriage she was Miss May Storms. She taught school for many years.

HUBBARD, Mrs. May - Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Congregational church at Cheney. Survived by her husband, C.I. and son, Clarence, of Cheney, also one daughter, Mrs. Anna Bullen of Chicago. Interment Riverside Park cemetery. JERUE FUNERAL HOME of Cheney in charge.1

Anecdote*1781 In 1781, at time of the burning of New London by the British, tradition says Capt. Richard was at sea. His wife threw the silver in the well, and with her babe in her arms, and accompanied by her five other children, walked from New London to Stafford, her old home. When they returned to New London to reside the spoons were recovered, and have been given to descendants.3
