Death*4 Nov 1914 Hebron, Thayer Co., Nebraska; Suicide / Obituary published in un-named newspaper:

IN MEMORY OF WILL TALBOT

The quiet town of Hebron, enjoying the sunshine of lovely autumn days was shocked and saddened by the sudden and tragic death by suicide of their cheerful fellow citizen and faithful co-worker, W.R. Talbott on last Thursday.

The news was soon over the town. All hearts were touched. The ___ thought was for the mother and sister visiting him, for the bereaved wife, and for the family of bright and happy children so suddenly bereft of a father's loving care, and many hearts were grieved on their own account. Offers of help came from every hand. Sympathy was shown in every possible way. People could not have been more kind. His older brother, Benjamin Talbott whose home is in Peoria, Illinois, was summoned by telegraph as soon as possible, and reached here Saturday evening on the Burlington, accompanied by son-in-law Evan Werth of Lincoln, Illinois. All possible arrangements were made that might, and Sunday morning the body of the deceased was taken back to Lincoln, Illinois to be buried beside his father in the beautiful cemetery at that place. Mrs. Talbott the wife, and the younger son Robert went back with the friends to see the body laid away.

William Robert Talbott was born in Logan County,m Illinois, on a farm a mile and a half west of Burtonview, April 7, 1872 and was 42 years, 6 months, and 28 days of age; just in the prime of life. He came to Nebraska in 1892 and was married to Miss Floy Holcomb in September 1895. Four children were born to them, Friend, Marie, Clara, and Robert.

Mr. Talbot was long engaged in the cement work and wont the friendship of those who knew him by his industry and his cheery ways. Most of the walks in town, many porch floors, porch steps, porch columns, and the cement bridges and culverts over the country bear his name, are a monument to his industry. But he leaves no better monument than his beautiful well-kept garden.

He died at at a time of year when there were but few blossoms to lay upon his bier and when his vegetables were all gathered in, but the evidences of his care and handiwork are there in the carefully prepared beds for another year. There is no surer sign of a fine nature in man or woman that the love a garden. It is the verdict of his many kind freiends that over work, too great a strain on nerve and muscle caused his untimely death. His face as he lay in the casket had no look of pain. It was the face of peaceful sleep, and no doubt the tender words of the chapters read by Rev. Lewis and the beautiful prayer he made at the last moments, comforted the sorrowing friends.

Obituary in the Hawley Herald (Clay Co., MN) - 10 Nov 1927:

JOHN THORENE, DALE FARMER, IS DEAD

Mr. John Thorene, passed away at his home in Duluth Saturday afternoon after an illness lasting about three months. Medical aid was sought and every thing that loving hands could do was done to restore him to health but to no avail.

Mr. Thorene was born in Smaland Sweden, Mar 31, 1927 and passed away Nov. 5, 1927 at the age of 48 years, 7 months and 5 days.

Mr. Thorene was united in marriage to Miss Dorothy Erickson, at Winnipeg Junction, Oct 27, 1909. This union was blessed with five children: Two have preceeded their father in death, namely Sherman and their first born babe.

He, with his family, lived at Brainerd for a whle, coming to Duluth nine years ago and this has been his home since.

Those left to mourn a kind and loving husband and father are the widow, Mrs. Dorothy Thorene, three children Elenore, Edna and John. A mother, aged 88 years at Stillwater. Four brothers, Rev. Hugo Thorene and Wendell of Minneapolis, Joseph [sic] and Tony [sic] of Stillwater. Two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Van Tassel of Minneapolis and Mrs. Marie Nord of Hudson, Wis., many other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Thoren [sic] was a true and faithful husband. During his sickness he experienced a true conversion and regeneration, and boldly testified of the grace and saving poer of Christ being fully resigned to God's Will and way of dealing with him. "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethern, concerning them wich are asleep that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again even so then also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him." 1 Thess. 4, 13-14.

Mrs. Thorene is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Erickson of Dale and the funeral was held at the Mission church of Dale. Interment was made in the church yard cemetery.
