| Employment* | a 1700 | Holma, Herrestad Parish, Göteborg och Bohus, Sweden, Rusthållare1 |
| Will* | 24 Mar 1735 | Ulla-Britt Homqvist writes:
I have recently read some microfilms concerning judicial acts from Lane district court, which covers Herrestad, Skredsvik and Högås where your Swedish ancestors lived. I found a will written in 1735 in Holma written by nr 5 below Anders Bengtsson
....
Let me introduce you to one of your ancesters.:
Anders Bengtsson was born around 1666 and married Anna Rasmusdotter in 1700 and moved to Holma. He became a “Rusthållare” which means that the farm was a horsement equipment and Anders kept a dragoon with clothing and accouterments as well as a horse with trappings. The dragoon had a croft as well and some payment in cash. When he was not on duty, he worked at the farm. For this Anders got tax abatement. He was free from conscription and he also was free from transports of people and goods when the inn keepers ordered help.
Anders and Anna had 7 children, 5 daughters, 2 sons Ifwar and Jacob, who married girls from Herrestad and moved to their homes.
In 1735 Anders and his wife Anna make their will. He declares that he is poor and week (he is 69) and he can no longer manage the farm and the expenses of the horsement equipment. And his children who he thought would have been a help to him in his old days they have moved “searched their luck” elsewhere. Three of the daughters are still unmarried, but the eldest of them is soon to marry and Anders and Anna have decided to make their intended son-in-law Nils Olsson their heir. He is of good family and has a good economy. They give him the right of possession to ¼ of Holma included the horsement equipment to use, cultivate and possess and they give to Nils Olsson half of all their belongings.
They make an agreement that when the old people die, their son-in-law shall arrange such an honourable funeral, as any honourable Man or Wife in the parish gets after its death, and since there are still two daughters in the family, who are not provided for, so shall Nils Olsson , if it pleases God that they come into marriage, be under the obligation of giving them honourable weddings and giving them dowries as the other children have received.
The will also said: ”Since my son-in-law is the owner of a quarter of a seine, so shall I as long as I live and the ship can earn some farthings, be equal with him in sharing the profits. This shall unalterably be kept on both sides as well of me as of my Wife and Son-in-law in what is written now in our lifetime and after our death and no one can dispute or speak against it, which we to greater assurance sign with our names and usual private mark”. Holma 24 Mars 1735.
Anna Rasmusdotter Anders Bengtsson Nils Olsson
Just imagine, this was written 270 years ago and it is still readable (in Swedish). Hope my Swenglish is readable too. I might have used funny words. The PC did not like some of them.
