Lars Anderson

After being a sufferer from epileptic fits for the past ten years, Lars Anderson, residing upon a small farm in southwestern Brandsvold died on Thursday last from one of these attacks.

Owing to his death being sudden, Dr. Nelson, the coroner, was notified and came up from Crookston the following day, but found the cause of this death to be as above stated.

The deceased was 49 years of age and leaves a wife and a large family of children in somewhat straitened circumstances.

Born 10 Feb 1865 in Norway. Died 9 April 19 at age 49 years, 1, month, 29 days in Bransvold Township, Polk Co., Minnesota. Father is (illegible ____eas - but not Andreas) Queberg, born in Norway. Mother's name is unknown.

Cause of death is epileptic stroke with a contributory cause of mitral insufficiency. The informant is Enger Anderson of Fosston. Occupation is farmer. Burial is at Landstad Cemetery in Fosston on 12 April 1914.1

BURLINGTON, Wash. - Eric Anthony Beard, a former NASA engineer and lifelong aviation enthusiast who thrilled crowds around the country as a stunt pilot, was killed in a crash during a routine flight, authorities said.
Beard, 47, died Friday night in the crash of his twin-engine Piper near Skagit Regional Airport about 60 miles north of Seattle, sheriff's officials said.
Beard, of Auburn, who learned to fly at 14 by taking lessons at a crop-dusting strip in his native Georgia, had been making what apparently was a routine flight for Airpac Airlines, a cargo carrier based in Seattle, sheriff's officials said.
The Federal Aviation Administration was investigating the accident.
Beard was a former NASA engineer who worked on the space shuttle and Titan rocket programs.
He began aerobatic flying in the early 1980s, his Web site said. He wowed air-show crowds around the country in his red-white-and-blue Yak-54, a single-engine, two-seat plane he called Russian Thunder.
With a 360-horsepower engine, the Russian-made aerobatic plane was one of only seven Yak-54s flying in the world, according to the Web site.
Fred Rosenfelder, air boss for the Freedom Fair, Seafair and McChord Air Force Base air shows, described Beard as "one of the top three or four performers" in the business.
"He always knew his routine. He was meticulous with the safety of his routine and if it wasn't right, it wouldn't happen," Rosenfelder said.
Beard is survived by his wife, Diane, and four children.

BERDAHL, ERICK J., was born in Norway August 8, 1850, and came to Minnehaha county with his father in June, 1872, having prior to that time lived with him in Iowa and Minnesota. He filed on the northwast quarter of the southwest quarter and the north half of the southeast quarter of setion 24 in Sverdrup, and the northwest quarter of the southwest quarter of section 19 in Edison as a homestead. He took up a timber claim, which he afterwards sold. He also sold the west 40 acres of his homestead, and bought 120 acres north of the remainder of his homestead, making him a farm of 240 acres, on which he now resides. He also owns 80 acres of section 25 in Sverdrup. He has been justice of the peace, member and chairman of the town board, postmaster of Pennington post office fifteen years, and at the election in November, 1892, was elected to the House of Representatives of the state legislature on the Populist ticket, and was the only candidate of his party elected to the legislature from this county that year.

Among he earliest were Lasse Bothun, Ole Neshiem, Edson Millard, Anton Hegge, John Sundback, Johan Loftesness, Hermund Wangsness, Thor Hermanson, Andrew J. Berdahl, O.J. Berdahl, Erick J. erdahl, Chris Berdahl, Herman J. Berdahl, John and Martha Berdahl, Snva Henjum and others, most of whom belong o the famed "Covered Wagon Train" from Goodhue county, Minnesota, though some of them had come earlier.

HON. ERICK J. BERDAHL is a native of Norway, where his birth occurred on the 8th day of August, 1850. When six years old, he was brought to the United States by his parents, and from that time until 1860 lived at the family home in Winneshiek county, Iowa, removing, the latter year, to Houston county, Minnesota, where he worked on the farm and attended school during the six years following. In 1866 he accompanied the family to Filmore county in the latter state, and after living there until 1873 came to South Dakota, settling on a farm in Sverdrup township, Minnehaha county, which he still owns and which he took up under the homestead law soon after his arrival. Mr. Berdahl has been actively identified with the material interests of Minnehaha county during the twenty years of his residence therein, and few, if any, have exercised a more beneficial influence upon its development or have contributed in a more marked degree to the various agencies and enterprises making for its progress. From the original homestead of wild land in a sparsely settled locality, he has developed one of the finest and most valuable farms of its area in the county, a beautiful place of one hundred and sixty acres, all under cultivation, containing substantial improvements and presenting the appearance of a home in which few comforts and conveniences are lacking. As an agriculturist Mr. Berdahl stands in the front rank, and the ample competence he now commands, and the fine condition of his home, attests the energy and success with which he has prosecuted his life work. Mr. Berdahl, on the 2d day of April, 1873, was united in the bonds of wedlock with Miss Hannah Brandvold, who was born July 5, 1848, in Norway, and who came to the United States about two years prior to her marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Berdahl are the parents of ten children, only three of whom are living, namely, John E. Carrie and Henry; the deceased are Christina, who married Erick Langness and died in her twenty-fourth year; Albert, Carrie, Anna, Alma and Anna, the last five dying in childhood.

Mr. Berdahl has been an influential Republican ever since attaining his majority and by reason of his activity in party circles and services rendered in different campaigns he has been from time to time honored with various official positions. He served for some years as justice of the peace, also as chairman of the township board, and for several years past has been treasurer of the Farmers' Mutual Insurance Company of Minnehaha County, a position of great responsibility, requiring of the incumbent much more than ordinary business talent. He also represented the county of Minnehaha one term in the general assembly and as a legislator sustained the high reputation in which he was held by the people, fully meeting the expectations of his constituents, Democrats as well as Republicans.

Mr. Berdahl is a man of great firmness, honest in his convictions, and ready at all times to maintain the soundness of his opinions. While diligent in the prosecution of his own affairs and successful in carrying them to conclusion, he is also interested in the welfare of the community and spares no reasonable sacrifice in encouraging agencies and enterprises for the promotion of the same. A pleasing presence combined with a genial disposition makes him popular with all classes and conditions of people, and his manly conduct and genuine worth are recognized and appreciated by those coming within the range of his influence.
