Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2009 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cold Spring, MN for Inez O. Monson, age 96, who died Thursday at the Assumption Nursing Home, Cold Spring. Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009 in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the church prior to the service Monday morning. Arrangements were entrusted with the Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring.

Inez was born in Minneapolis, MN to Peter and Indiana (Rodhammer) Pryts. She grew up in Seward Neighborhood of Minneapolis with four brothers and three sisters. She graduated from South High in 1932. Inez spent many years working at a photography studio. She married Albert Monson on November 12, 1948 at Bethany Lutheran Church. Inez loved music and sang in her church choir and with the Sweet Adelines. Following Albert's retirement the couple moved to their lake home near Richmond. Inez enjoyed painting, rosemaling, gardening, sewing, crossword puzzles, picnics, boat rides with friends and family on the pontoon and traveling, including yearly trips to Hawaii. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Cold Spring.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Eloise and Jerry Westby of Cold Spring; two granddaughters, Kari Westby of Saint Paul and Tami Westby of Richmond; brother-in-law, Leonard Monson; sister-in-law, Eleanore Calvelage; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert (1999); parents and her 7 siblings.

Memorials are preferred to the Peace Lutheran Church.

The family would like to send a special "Thank You" to the caregivers and staff at Assumption Home, for the wonderful care they gave Inez.

Peder Andersen Pryts, born 5 April 1860 and married on 29 July 1893 in Andobou, MN, to Indiana Bendikka Rodhammer, born 19 sept. 1975 in Rushford , MN, the daughter of Rasmus Rodhammer, born 12 March 1836 at Kolstad in Beitstaden, NT, died 23 Jul 1909 and his wife Lorenze Bergitta, born May 1845 at Rodhammer. Peder had 7 children of which the first Alvin was born in Minneapolis. Peder's father was Anders Jenssen Pryts, born 1820 , and lived in Dypdalen by Roros, and he emigrated in 1866, but had died by 1867. His wife was Ane Kjerstina Hansmortensdatter Odegaard, born 1828. No birth place given.3 
Biography* Peter's father, Andreas, died of tuberculosis, the year after the family immigrated to America. Four years later, his brother Jens died of the same disease. Peter, at age 11, had to go to work to support the family, as did his brother, Hans Morten.

Peder was a good carpenter and home builder for the rest of his life.

She was born April 22, 1905 in Dalton, the first child of Ole O. and Carrie (Brandvold) Sageng. She spent her early years at the family farm home in Dalton. In 1925 she married Harry Berger. During their early years of marriage, they farmed in the Dalton area. Mr. Berger died in 1972. A skilled seamstress, she was employed for many years by J.C. Penny and by Fergus Falls tailors. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was an active participant in her Circle's charitable quilting and sewing projects. With a love of gardening, she maintained her own home until entering Broen Memorial Home a few years ago. She is survived by her children, Ethelyn Soland of Fergus Falls and Robert (Eleanor) Berger of Seattle, WA; sisters, Mathilda Sageng of Fergus Falls and Evangeline Burton of St. Paul; loving nieces and nephews, many friends and special friend and care giver, JoAnne Rustad. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; brothers, Karl and Richard Sageng; sisters, Maria Lunnis, Olga Jacobsen, Dagny Ehlers and a grandson, Charles Soland.

Service: 2 p.m. Monday at Light and Life Auditorium, Broen Memorial Home

Ole O. Sageng was born in Osterdalen, Norway, December 1, 1871. He came to the United States with his family in 1878, settling near Dalton in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. He graduated from Fergus Falls (Minnesota) High School in 1895, and attended Augsburg College, Minneapolis. Sageng taught rural schools in Otter Tail County and in Grand Forks County, North Dakota. He farmed for many years near Dalton, and was chairman of the Rural Credit Board from 1925 to 1931.

Sageng ran unsuccessfully for the state legislature in 1896 and again in 1898 as a Populist. He was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1900 as a Populist, representing the Fifty-Ninth District in the regular session of 1901 and in the 1902 special session. In 1902 he ran for re-election in the House, but was defeated.

Sageng was elected to the Minnesota State Senate from the Fifty-Ninth District in 1906 (Populist/People's Party) and served until his voluntary retirement in 1922. In the Senate he was chairman of the Committee of Rules, and served on the committees on education, finance, and general legislation. He was an early advocate of "county option," Prohibition, and women's suffrage. He was president pro tem of the Senate in 1921.

In 1924, with the support of progressive elements in the Republican Party and of prominent leaders of the women's suffrage and Prohibition movements, he ran for the Republican nomination for United States Senator, but was defeated in the primary. Sageng was elected to the Minnesota Senate in 1950, representing the Fiftieth District until 1954.

Sageng married Carrie Brandvold (1881-1958) of Dalton, Minnesota, in 1904. They had six daughters (Borghild, Mathilda, Maria, Olga, Evangeline, and Dagny) and two sons (Karl and Richard). Carrie died November 23, 1958 after having been in failing health for ten years. Ole Senging died March 30, 1963.

Farmer, teacher, business man and all-around man of affairs, Senator Ole O. Sageng, of Tumuli township, Otter Tail county. Minnesota, is the leading citizen of this section of Otter Tail county, and one of the best- known men in the state of Minnesota. Elected on the Populist ticket to the House of Representatives in 1900, Senator Sageng served during the session of 1901 and the extra session of 1901. In 1906 he was elected on the Populist ticket to the Minnesota state Senate and has served continuously ever since, having been re-elected in 1910 as a Populist, and in 1914 as a non-partisan. In 1908 he was an independent candidate for Congress from the ninth Minnesota congressional district. During the past twelve years he has been president of the Dalton Grain and Lumber Company and was one of the incorporators. For seven years Senator Sageng was manager of the Dalton Co-operative Creamery Company.

Senator Ole O. Sageng is a native of Norway, where he was born on December 1, 1871, the son of Ole H. and Mali (Dahlen) Sageng. the former of whom was born in Norway on July 9, 1839, and the latter born in Norway on February 3, 1839. They were married in Norway on April 9, 1866, and in the spring of xxx came with their family to America. After a time, they located near Dalton, in Tumuli township, Otter Tail county. Minnesota, where Mr. Sageng homesteaded forty acres of land. After fifteen years, he sold the forty-acre farm and purchased one hundred and sixty acres in the same township about four miles west of Dalton. In 1913 he retired from farming. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ole H. Sageng, as follow: Ingeborg. Kari, Hans, Ole O., Halvor, Marit and Lars who died some years ago. The parents of these children are members of the Norwegian Lutheran church.

Of these children, Ole O. Sageng received his education in the common school of Tumuli township and in the high school at Fergus Falls, from which he was graduated with the class of 1895. After graduating from high school, he attended the Augsberg Seminary at Minneapolis for one year and then taught school in Otter Tail county for about five years, he also taught one year in North Dakota. During the time that Ole O. Sageng was engaged in teaching, he was also engaged in farming, having started to farming in `898 on his father's farm.

In 1909 Senator Sageng purchased a farm of one hundred and sixty acres, adjoining the town of Dalton on the north, and since that time has lived upon this farm. He is engaged in mixed farming and in stock raising.

In 1904, Ole O. Sageng was married to Kari Brandvold, who was born on December 4. 1881, and who is the daughter of K. H. Brandvold, mentioned elsewhere in this volume. To this union there have been born 10 children, of whom one, Ole, Jr., died in infancy. The living children are Borghild, .Matilda, Karl, Maria and Dagny. Senator and Mrs. Sageng and family are members of the Norwegian Lutheran church. Senator Sageng is now secretary of the Sarpsburg congregation.

Coming from a representative family in Norway, it is not at all surprising that Senator Sageng has achieved success in his adopted home and country. His grandparents, Hans and Ingaborg Sageng, were prominent farmers in their native land, and it is from these sterling ancestors, no doubt, that he has inherited those worthy traits which have enabled him to succeed in a new country. Having come to America when he was a mere lad, Senator Sageng knows no country other than the United States and loves no other state so well as his own state of Minnesota, which he has served so faithfully and so well for many years.

Funeral services were conducted here Monday for Mrs. Ole Mellesmeon Sr.

The funeral was conducted from the Cartin Funeral home and Hope Lutheran church with the Rev. T. H. Megorden officiating. Burial was made in Brandsvold cemetery.

Ingrid Mellesmoen was born Oct. 27, 1871 in Tanseth, Norway to parents Embrit and Sigri Sagmoen.

She came with her parents to America July 2, 1881 and settled at Fisher, Minn.

When the Thirteen Towns opened for settlement they moved to Brandsvold township in the year 1885.

She was confirmed in Fosston by Rev. Hireman.

In the year 1896 she united in marriage to Ole Mellesmoen at the home of her parents, in Brandsvold.

Her husband, Ole Mellesmoen, passed away September 23, 1942.

Mrs. Mellesmoen has brought up the following children: Clara and Ole Mellesmoen who now survive her.

A brother, Peter Sagmoen, of Belingham,Wash. also survives her, and was present for the funeral.

Mrs. Mellesmoen suffered a stroke Dec. 10 at the home of Clara and Bennie Mellesmoen in Duluth. She did not regain consciousness and passed away Dec. 18 at the age of 76 years, one month and three days.

She will be laid to rest on the family lot in Brandsvold of which church she was a charter member.

Born on 27 October 1871 in Norway. Died on 18 December 1947 at age 76 years, 1 month, 21 days in Duluth, Minnesota. Widowed. Husband's name was "Ole."

Cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage (7 days) due to hyper [?] vascular disease.

Father's name is given as Ingebret Sagmoen. Mother's name is "unknown." The informant is Mrs. B. Mellesmoen of 4025 W 4th St. in Duluth, Minnesota.8
